Governor Malloy: Gov. Malloy: Non-Profit Organizations, Municipalities Can Now Apply for Super Storm Sandy Relief

$10.5 Million in Federal Social Services Funding Available
(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that his administration is seeking applications from nonprofit organizations and municipalities to provide disaster relief services to households and organizations that were directly affected by Super Storm Sandy. Nonprofit agencies and municipalities interested in applying to become service providers can find the “Request for Applications” and additional information about the disaster relief program on the state’s CT Recovers website at
“Successful bidders will address a range of housing, case management and other service needs for individuals, families and organizations affected by Super Storm Sandy,” Governor Malloy said. “These disaster recovery funds will play a large role in helping those most impacted by the storm rebuild and regain services in the hardest-hit areas.  We appreciate the continued support of President Obama, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and the entire Congressional delegation during our Sandy recovery efforts.”
The Governor previously announced that Connecticut was awarded $10,569,192 in Super Storm Sandy Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) Supplemental Funds. The amount of SSBG Supplemental funding was based on the number of state residents registering for Individual Assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  The federal Super Storm Sandy SSGB Supplemental Funds will support disaster relief services such as:
  • case management services;
  • counseling;
  • housing services;
  • information and referral;
  • protective services for adults;
  • protective services for children;
  • renovations/repairs; and
  • administrative services.
“Getting this funding into the hands of those nonprofits in the region to assist in the continuing recovery after Super Storm Sandy is important,” Department of Social Services Commissioner Roderick L. Bremby said. “This particular block of funding will deliver a wide array of services for some of our most vulnerable populations.”
